Your Jubilee Is Here - Part 1

  • 20.06.24

Leviticus? ?25:10? And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. Jubilee literally means a joyful shout or the sounding of a trumpet. Historically, the Jubilee year was the 50th year at end of seven cycles of seven years in Israel. During the Jubilee year slaves and prisoners were set free, debts were forgiven, all mortgaged landed property reverted to original owners, and it was also a time of rest for both the people and the land. Yes, the children of Israel were not allowed to work in their fields because the fields had to be left fallow. The year of Jubilee was a prophetic pointer to the work and mission of Christ. As depicted by Isaiah, Christ's mission typified the objectives of Jubilee. For instance, He was anointed to address all forms of poverty, to heal the broken-hearted, to set the captives free, to give sight to the blind and to liberate the oppressed (Isaiah 61:1-3; Luke 4:16-21). No wonder Jesus summarised His mission by simply saying that He wanted to "To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord which is the year of Jubilee. Jesus fulfilled the qualities of Jubilee in that His blood was shed to atone for our sins. Those who have accepted Him as Lord and Saviour enter the season of Jubilee. In our time, the Jubilee year, is not a literal calendar year but rather a dispensation characterised by God's grace, redemption and deliverance in Christ Jesus. Thus, in Him, you are ordained to be free in every way and to enjoy every benefit available to His children.
